Playtech Blue Wizard Video Slot Review

Blue Wizard: Demo

A mediaeval sorcerer tries to conjure up a jackpot or 2 in Blue Wizard. Created by Playtech, this 5 reel, 30 payline video slot comes with plenty of extras. There’s a free spins round where wild multipliers can boost payouts by up to 16x and streak respins which could trigger 1 of 4 jackpot prizes. Play on all devices from between 10p and £500 per spin.

The design here is simply done. Set against a rural backdrop, you’ll see gold A to 10 symbols alongside a magic ring, a book of spells and a cauldron. The best of the standard symbols is the owl which will get you 6 times your bet if you land 5 on a payline.

Appearing on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 only, the bearded Blue Wizard is the wild. He substitutes for everything apart from the crystal ball and the scatter. Blue Wizard comes with 2 feature rounds.

Free Games feature – this round is triggered in the usual manner by landing 3 scatters on the same spin. You’ll then receive 6 free spins. Hope to see the wild wizard appear on reel 3 during the free spins as he turns into a multiplier wild which can boost payouts by 2x, 4x, 8x or 16x. You can also retrigger the feature to give you 12 free spins altogether.

Fire Blaze Respin feature – this is triggered by landing between 6 and 15 of the crystal ball symbol on the same spin. These crystal balls comes with cash values of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15 or 50 times your total bet, or jackpot stars attached. The crystal balls from the triggering spin are held and 3 respins follow.

If a new crystal ball lands, then it too is held and the respins reset to 3. Once you’re out of respins, all the cash values are added together to create your final payout. If you have a crystal ball with a jackpot star, you’ll be in line for one of the Mini, Minor or Major jackpots – these are worth 20, 100 or 500 times your bet. In the happy event that you fill all the reels with crystal balls, you’ll win the combined cash values plus the Grand Jackpot (of 2,000 times your bet).

There’s nothing very original about Blue Wizard. We’ve seen similar combinations of features and themes in many other video slots. It’s all very solidly done though. The visuals are well crafted and the magical soundtrack fits the theme well. We liked the ranges of extras on offer here too.

Put all that together and Blue Wizard becomes a very playable game and one to consider if you enjoy the sorcery theme. The 16x wild multipliers can also lead to payouts of 2,880 times your bet on each free spin. If you like sorcery themed video slots, NextGen Gaming’s Merlin’s Money Burst or ELK Studios’ The Wiz would be my choices.
