Playson Christmas Eve Slot Review and Free Play

Christmas Eve: Demo

Christmas Eve – a night of fevered anticipation for millions of youngsters the world over but probably not quite as thrilling for video slots players. Playson has tried to remedy that by creating a game called Christmas Eve. It’s a 5 reel, 1,024 ways to win game that comes with wilds that add a re-spin whenever they hit and a free spins round with dynamic multipliers that can top 5x. Stakes range from between 20p and £60 per spin.

A wintry village scene forms the backdrop to the reels here – there you’ll find an assortment of ivy tinged playing cards, bells, stars and candles, gingerbread houses and snow globes spinning away. They’re joined by the gift box which is the wild – it doesn’t offer any payouts but does substitute for all other symbols bar the scatter.

Perhaps more importantly, it awards a re-spin whenever it lands. The wild locks in place for that re-spin too – this is known as the Frosty Wild feature.

The smiling figure of Santa is the scatter – he offers awards of 2, 5 or 10 times your total stake as well as triggering the Free Spins feature. You will get 10, 15 or 20 free spins if you manage to land 3, 4 or 5 of them on the same spin. Throughout those free spins, 1 position on the middle 3 reels will become a sticky wild.

Santa delivers some other goodies during the feature too – a dynamic multiplier increases with each successive win, starting at 1x before rising to 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x. A winless free spin sends the multiplier back down to 1x. If you manage to get all the way to 5x, you’ll get a 5x boost on each subsequent free spin. Even if you endure a winless free spin, the multiplier won’t drop down and will stick at the maximum 5x.

Many Christmas video slots are like the kind of American daytime movie you’ll find on Channel 5. Dripping in sentimentality and full of OTT schmaltz – Christmas Eve sails close to the wind but stays just the right side of sugary overload.

The visuals are simply done and the jaunty soundtrack has a festive appeal without being overly grating. The gameplay stacks up pretty well too, delivering a steady stream of action. If you’re looking for a video slot that can deliver some seasonal cheer to even the most miserable Scrooge, then Christmas Eve is worth a look. I also recommend Playtech’s Ghosts of Christmas.
