Yggdrasil Gaming Valley of the Gods Video Slot Review

Valley of the Gods: Demo

Yggdrasil Gaming is the latest developer to try and breathe new life into the classic ancient Egyptian-themed video slot. Valley of the Gods comes with Yggdrasil Gaming’s usual superb design as well as some unusual extras. The action takes place on a game engine which offers between 45 and 3,125 ways to win where every win leads to a re-spin. You can also boost payouts with expanding multipliers. Play, across all devices, from between 25p and £125 per spin.

As usual with games from Yggdrasil Gaming, the design here is very high end. The reels are set within a classic temple and flanked by statues of Horus and Anubis and feature a selection of hieroglyphs and animal gods. They are superbly done.

On firing up Valley of the Gods, you’ll notice that the 3 reel positions in each corner are filled with blockers. Land a winning spin though and you’ll be awarded a re-spin with some of the blockers removed (the precise number depends on how many symbols were in your winner).

The number of ways to win also increases as the blockers are removed. This starts at 45 but reaches 3,125 if you manage to clear the reels of blockers. The expanded game engine isn’t all that’s on offer if you clear the screen – all payouts on the full set are doubled. You also bring the Scarab Collection extras into play.

These are triggered by landing blue or red overlay beetles. Light up the Horus meter by landing 5 of the blue beetle and you’ll increase the multiplier by 1 – the Win Multiplier feature. Light up the Anubis meter by landing 5 red beetles ad you’ll be awarded an extra life – the Extra Lives feature. This keeps the full screen in play, even following a losing spin. Land a losing spin when you’ve run out of lives and you’ll revert back to the basic set up with the blockers in play.

With its high spec visuals and haunting soundtrack, Valley of the Gods is a fantastically well designed video slot. The features certainly offer a change from standard free spins and pick me rounds too. The key to unlocking the riches of the pyramids is to get on a roll with the re-spins and open up the full 3,125 ways to win game engine, complete with multipliers. Clearing the board is a tricky thing to do though as expect plenty of dry spells on this desert quest.

Finding a fresh take on such a classic theme isn’t the easiest thing to do. Yggdrasil Gaming has largely pulled it off in Valley of the Gods. If its ancient Egyptian gods you’re after, there’s plenty of choice with IGT’s Sphinx Wild and Novomatic’s Dynasty of Ra 2 great options.
