Breathing new life into the old-fashioned fruit machine is a staple for Novomatic and the Austrian developer has come up trumps again with Jester’s Luck. This 5 reel, 25 payline game comes with wild re-spins which can then turn other symbols wild too. Stakes range from between 50p and £100 per spin.
Novomatic’s fruity re-boots are usually pretty Spartan affairs as far as design goes and that’s true of Jester’s Luck. The plain black reels include lower value playing cards which are joined by a selection of fruity favourites. You’ll see lemons and oranges which pay up to 8 times your total bet per payline. Next come the melons and stars which can award up to 12 times your stake. The bells and lucky 7s are the most lucrative symbols – land 5 of these on a line and you can look forward to 20 or 40 times your total bet.
The big twist in this retro-flavoured video slot comes via the lucky jester who is the wild – he substitutes for all other symbols as per usual. Whenever he lands, he’ll also award a re-spin, complete with the wild locked in place. If another wild lands on the re-spin, you’ll get another. These continue until there’s a re-spin without a wild or you reach 4 re-spins.
Once the re-spins finish, a jester will start juggling and randomly reveal a symbol. All instances of this symbol elsewhere on the reels will become wild. The process is then repeated for all of the other wild symbols on view. Needless to say, some very decent rewards are possible here.
Jester’s Luck follows Novomatic’s usual fruit machine formula – the design is simple but the gameplay is fast and can deliver some impressive action. This won’t this be a video slot for you if you like plenty of variety in your features. It is a fruit machine re-boot after all.
