Novomatic Almighty Reels – Power of Zeus Slot Review and Free Play

The third release in Novomatic’s ancient Greek-themed Almighty Reels series is Almighty Reels – Power of Zeus. It’s a 5 reel, 25 payline video slot that comes with a bonus round where you can choose from between 8 and 12 free spins with 1 special symbol spinning in colossal formation. Play on your PC, tablet or mobile device from between 25p and £100 per spin.

Novomatic have upped their game when it comes to design in some of their more recent releases and Almighty Reels – Power of Zeus is another good-looking game. We’re still not quite in ELK Studios or Thunderkick country but it’s still easy on the eye.

Set against a cloud-filled skyline, the reels are set within the marble columns of a Greek temple. Joining the lower value royal values are a cornucopia, a harp, a vase and a Spartan soldier’s helmet. Zeus, King of the Gods is the most lucrative symbol. He pays 1, 2 or 4 times your total bet if you land 3, 4 or 5 on the same payline. Look out for the temple symbol which is the wild. This can hit on all 5 reels and replace all other symbols bar the scatter.

The coin is the scatter. It appears in a colossal 3×3 block in the base game. If the coin fills the whole of the middle 3 reels, you’ll trigger the Free Games feature You’ll then be given a selection of free spin and colossal symbol combinations. The more lucrative the symbol, the fewer the free spins and vice versa. Here are your choices:

  • 8 free spins with Zeus as the colossal symbol
  • 9 free spins with the warrior’s helmet as the colossal symbol
  • 10 free spins the vase as the colossal symbol
  • 11 free spins with the harp as the colossal symbol
  • 12 free spins with the cornucopia as the special symbol

The gameplay in Almighty Reels – Power of Zeus is pretty simple. The colossal symbols in the feature may sound appealing but there’s a top payout of 100 times your bet on every spin/free spin – that’s pretty poor in my opinion.

Many Novomatic video slots are super volatile. That’s not the case here though. The variance is in the low to medium range so you should get plenty of play. We managed to land the free spins more regularly than in many other Novomatic games – the 100 times bet max win is the reason why.

All the Almighty Reels titles from Novomatic don’t offer much in the way of winning potential so I would advise you stay well clear – their Tales of Darkness trilogy offers a lot more in terms of max winnings (I particularly like Tales of Darkness: Full Moon). If it’s Greek mythology you’re after, you cannot go wrong with Playtech’s Age of the Gods.
