WMS’ Gremlins Slot Review

The latest classic movie to get the slots treatment is Gremlins. The game based on the cult horror comedy has been created by WMS/Red 7 and is played using a 5 reel, 20 payline game engine. There’s a cartoon style to the design in Gremlins which is simple but nicely done. With a bedroom in the background, the reels are made up of A to J symbols alongside a soft drink, carton of popcorn, 3D movie specs and a microwave. The best of the standard symbols is the Gremlins logo.

Base game modifiers

There are 3 mini modifiers that can appear during any base game spin:

• Stripe Wilds feature – Stripe wilds can copy (like the gremlins) and turn multiple symbol positions wild following any spin.

5 feature rounds

There are 5 different features on offer in Gremlins. The Bonus Selector is activated by landing 3 Bonus symbols on the same spin. 1 of the 5 following rounds will then be awarded at random:

• Splashing Wild Free Spins feature – 8 free spins are awarded in this round. Any wild that lands expands to turn the whole of the reel wild. Re-triggers are possible too.
• Gremlin Link Free Spins feature – this is a streak spin round that centre on Stripe. You’ll start with 3 lives. If a Stripe symbol doesn’t land, you’ll lose a life. If he does, the lives reset to 3. The respins continue until you’re out of lives. All the Stripe symbols come with a cash amount attached. These are added together at the end of the round. You could also see your overall payout boosted by a 2x, 3x or 5x multiplier if the special symbol appears on the sixth reel.
• Avoid the Sun Free Spins feature – the number of free spins awarded here varies each time. After 8 winning combinations have hit, sticky wilds become active. These lock in position for the rest of the round. The round ends when you have landed an 11th sun symbol.

Solid slot version of the cult classic film

It’s hard to believe that (at the time of writing) Gremlins is 35 years old. The not so cuddly critters have stood the test of time. This slot version is a pretty good adaptation. The comic book design is nicely done and the features offer plenty of variety.
