Novomatic Wild Thing Slot Review and Free Play

Wild Thing: Demo

Novomatic has added to its catalogue of classic fruit machines with the launch of Wild Thing. This one is played using an unusual 4 reel, 10 payline game engine and comes with a feature round that awards up to 300 free spins complete with a frozen, stacked wild reel. Play, on all devices, from between 40p and £100 per spin.

We’re in classic Novomatic country in Wild Thing – the reels may be set against the lush green vegetation of the jungle but the symbols on show are classic fruity. In ascending order of value, you’ll find plums and oranges which pay 1 or 4 times your total bet if you land 3 or 4 in a line.

They’re followed by grapes and bells which pay 2x and 8x, melons which award 5x and 20x and the luck 7 which offers payouts of 10 or 40x. The white and blue star is the most rewarding symbol. Land 3 or 4 of these in combination and you’ll receive a payout equal to 25 or 100 times your total bet.

Helping those winning chances is the wild which can land on reel 4 only. It substitutes for everything apart from the scatter. Land a wild but don’t get a winner and you’ll be given a second chance as the wild is held in place for the spin that follows. Winning combinations can be created here from left to right as well as right to left.

Keep a special eye out for the raven-haired woman who is the scatter. Heralding her arrival on the reels is a cheeky ‘ooh’! Land 3 of them anywhere on the reels and you’ll trigger the Free Games feature with 10 free spins. 4 scatters and the number of free spins doubles to 20.

Regardless of how many free spins are awarded, the whole of the rightmost reel will be wild throughout. The wild replaces all symbols including the scatter during the feature making it that much easier to re-trigger extra rounds of free spins – with a whopping 300 available in total!

Wild Thing won’t be winning any awards for its simple design. The base game action doesn’t really get the blood flowing either. The action really picks up when you trigger the bonus round though. The combination of stacked wilds and wilds that can replace scatters make for a pretty enticing combination. All our best wins came via the bonus round with the overall variance is in the medium to high range.

Novomatic is something of a specialist when it comes to taking a retro style fruit machine and giving it a modern-day twist. Wild Things offers just that and is certainly worth a look if you’re after some classic, old school action. For something better graphically but just as volatile, Novomatic’s Kingdom of Legend can’t be beaten.
