WMS King of Africa Video Slot Review

King of Africa: Demo

King of Africa is WMS’ take on the safari-themed video slot and has been revised from the original version. The likeliest way to track down a big beast of a jackpot in this 5 reel, 20 payline game comes via the King of Africa Bonus feature. Play this lovely looking game on all devices from between 30p and £150 per spin.

There’s a fresh, modern look to the imagery in King of Africa. Set against a grassland backdrop, you’ll see an assortment of African-themed and animal symbols. All of them relate to the theme. Joining the shields and necklaces are zebras, antelopes, elephants and leopards. As you’d expect, the biggest payer is the lion which will get you 33.3 times your total bet if you land 5 on the same payline.

More rewarding still is the King of Africa logo which is the game’s wild. As well as substituting for all other symbols apart from the bonus, it also offers some pretty hefty rewards in its own right. A 5 on a payline combination will get you 100 times your bet.

Land 2 or more bonus symbols on the same spin and you’ll activate the Hot Hot Penny feature – you’ll then receive a respin with the bonus symbols freezing in position. If that respins delivers 3 or more bonus symbols, then you’ll trigger King of Africa’s only feature.

That is the King of Africa Bonus feature – on offer here are an initial 8 free spins. You’ll have the chance to add to that rather meagre total via a pick me round though. Choose from the jigsaw-style pieces of a lion’s face which can up to 36 extra free spins to you tally. Triggering the bonus with 3, 4 or 5 bonus symbols awards 3, 4 or 5 picks.

That’s your lot as far as features go. The King of Africa Bonus feature is solid enough but we’d like to have seen something extra like multipliers or extra wilds thrown in. It’s a shame really as the design here is really rather good. As is the African-style backing track.

King of Africa is almost a really good game. The odd tweak here and there and we’d have loved it. As it is, it should appeal to safari lovers. If you’re not usually a fan, then the lack of extras means King of Africa falls just short of expectations. I recommend you try IGT’s Elephant King which also takes you the plains of Africa.
