Top end design and quirky themes are the usual recipe for a Thunderkick video slot and they’ve managed to blend both in the classic fruit machine re-boot Zoom. It’s a 6 reel, 64 payline game that comes with respins with giant symbols. Play from between 10p and £100 per spin.
Many developers have had a crack at renewing the humble fruity and Thunderkick’s is a typically innovative attempt. The visuals aren’t as flashy as we’ve seen in some Thunderkick games but they’re more than adequate. You’ll see cherries, lemons, melons, grapes, bells and lucky 7s spinning around the reels. The gold star is the top payer, awarding 12.5 times your total stake if you land 5 on a line. There’s also a wild that substitutes for everything bar the scatter. Pastel shades dominate and it’s all rather tastefully done.
So far, so standard. You’ll notice that the reels are a little different to what you’ll find in a common or garden fruity – they are split into six 2×2 sections known as Zoom areas. When a zoom scatter lands, you’ll be awarded a re-spin. On that re-spin, the symbols in that Zone appear as giant 2×2 symbols. Land a zoom scatter in 4 Zoom areas that make up a square then you’ll get a Super Massive Symbol on your re-spins.
That sounds more complicated than it really is – the game is in fact super simple. The gameplay revolves around the re-spins and expanded symbols which makes for some very entertaining play. There aren’t any free spins or other extras here. The re-spins come along regularly though so you’ll barely notice.
Easy on the eye as always and with a jaunty backing track in the background, Zoom is an entertaining all-rounder. If a variety of bonus features is a necessity for you then Zoom will be one to scrub from your list. For simple, hypnotic gameplay you shouldn’t go too far wrong – it can pay out 1,500 times your bet on every spin/re-spin which helps. If you want something more complex, you can’t go wrong with Full Moon Romance (from Thunderkick).
