Wolverine Video Slot review
Wolverine is a Playtech-powered Marvel video slot with 5 reels and 25 paylines. You can spin away from just 25p a spin or if you bet a little bigger, up to £250 a spin. The game is based on the blockbuster film whereby Hugh Jackman stars as Wolverine. The game has 2 excellent bonus features where you will see Wolverine claw at the reels to give you extra wilds and get injected with Adamantium to freeze wilds.
One thing that caught my eye instantly was the fact that Wolverine is the first Playtech slot to have the Turbo Mode feature. Basically, you can go to the settings in any Playtech game and set it to Fast Play – it’s not visible on the game though so many players don’t know it exists. Now, the Turbo Mode feature allows you to spin the reels very quickly – well, it’s good if you’re an impatient slot lover like me!
Another thing is that the Wolverine symbol appears as a single wild, double stacked wild or triple stacked wild on all reels. Keep an eye out for the Berserker Rage symbol on the 5th reel (far right) as this activates the Berserker Rage feature. Wolverine then jumps onto the reels.
If the Berserker Rage symbol appears on the top of the reel, 2 to 4 symbols will be transformed into wilds. If the Berserker Rage symbol lands on the middle of the reel, 3 to 5 wild symbols are scattered across the reels. However, if the Berserker Rage symbol appears on the bottom of the reel, 2 reels turn into stacked wild reels. Once any of the 3 possibilities happens, 1 re-spin is awarded. The feature triggers fairly often which is quite good. The bigger wins will come from the 2 reels turning into stacked wilds though.
The other feature is the Adamantium Free Games feature which you can activate by obtaining 3 or more Syringe symbols anywhere on the reels. You will get 12 free spins to play. Once in, you will see an Adamantium tank with 12 levels on it. If you get 3 Syringes to trigger the feature, you will receive 4 levels in the tank. You will get 8 levels for 4 Syringe symbols and 12 levels for 5 Syringe symbols.
This feature is all about the wilds though – when a Wolverine wild appears, Adamantium is injected into the wild symbol which then freezes it for the next free spin. As a result, the Adamantium level goes down by 1. If you get the Syringe symbol, this increases the Adamantium level accordingly. I did find the free spins feature a bit slow time wise to play out but if you get a few wilds early on, the big wins should come meaning I wouldn’t mind waiting.
Wolverine is a good slot game with the potential for big wins in the Adamantium Free Games feature being very appealing. As mentioned, get wilds early on for the big returns. It’s a game I will play frequently but I do prefer The Avengers or Iron Man 3 to be honest.
