Playtech Torrente Video Slot Review

Based on the 5th film outing for the bumbling former Spanish cop of the same name, Torrente is a movie-themed video slot from the Playtech stable. Available on desktop, tablet and mobile, it’s a 5 reel, 25 payline game that comes with a 2-stage pick me round and a free spins feature where all payouts are trebled. Stakes range from between 25p and £25 per spin.

Like most of the Anglo speaking world, you’re probably unaware of the charms of Torrente – he’s a (very) politically incorrect former Madrid cop who keeps his crime fighting hand in with darkly comedic results.  As you’d expect from a Playtech movie title, the design here is pretty high-end. The reels are set against a cemetery backdrop with the grinning Torrente in the background.

You’ll see lower value playing cards spinning around the reels, each 1 embellished by glasses of whisky, sunglasses, rings, guns and knickers. They’re joined by 4 of the main characters from the film series. The best of these is of course Torrente – land 5 of him across a payline and you’ll pocket 200 times your total bet. Helping you to create those winning lines is a wiggling bum in a bikini which is the wild. That wild is central to 1 of the game’s 2 features.

Hotel Paradise Free Games feature – land a wild on reels 2, 3 and 4 on the same spin and you’ll receive 15 free spins. All payouts receive a 3x multiplier boost in this round. Landing 3 wilds will trigger another round of free spins giving you 30 in total.

Óperacion Eurovegas Bonus feature – his 2-stage pick me round is triggered by landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters on the same spin. After receiving an award equal to 5, 20 or 100 times your total bet, you’ll be taken to a new screen when you get to spin a wheel. A cash prize is awarded depending on where the spinner lands. You’ll then enter a bank vault where you’ll be given the pick of 6 trolleys. Behind 4 of them are cash prizes. Lurking behind 2 of them are collects. Keep on picking until you find a collect. This round can be triggered in both the base game and free spins.

We’d never heard of Torrente before firing up this game. You don’t really need to know anything about the characters to enjoy this video slot though. The features offer some decent potential here. We hit the picks round at regular intervals and picked up some solid games. The free spins round was much trickier to find. A 3x multiplier can make it worth the wait though.

Playing this video slot didn’t get us searching out the original Spanish films. It doesn’t really matter though. Well designed and boasting a pair of solid extras, the one-time Madrid cop Torrente is worth investigating. If you like movie themed games, Jurassic World from Microgaming and Planet of the Apes by Net Entertainment are 2 of the better ones.
