Playtech Terminator Genisys Video Slot Review

Terminator Genisys: Demo

Based on the 5th instalment of the hugely popular science fiction film franchise, Terminator Genisys is a movie tie-in from Playtech. This 5 reel, 25 payline video slot features instantly recognisable imagery and plenty of bonus features. There’s a pick me round that awards cash, respins and multipliers as well as a pair of free spins features complete with stacked wilds and wild multipliers. Stakes start at 25p rising to a maximum of £2,500 per spin.

As you’d hope from a big budget film tie-in, the design in Terminator Genisys is impressively done. With the ruins of San Francisco in the background, you’ll see gadgets, guns, a cyborg hand, a photo and a teddy bear spinning around the reels.

The most lucrative symbols are the characters from the film. In ascending order of value are the cyborg, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney), John Connor (Jason Clarke) and Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke). The Terminator (a grey-haired Arnie) is the best of the standard symbols, offering awards of up to 48 times your bet per payline.

Even bigger rewards are on offer from the wild which pays 4, 40 or 200 times your bet if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a line. These wilds replace everything bar the scatter and apply multiplier boost of up to 5x when they make up part of a winning combination. There’s a decent range of extras on offer in Terminator Genisys:

Terminator Car Chase Bonus feature – this can become live at random on any spin. A car chase ensues with T-100 symbols landing on the reels. Aim the target and fire to reveal coin prizes, respins and multipliers of up to 5x.

Terminator Genisys also comes with a pair of free spin rounds. Land 3 scatters on the same spin and you’ll be able to choose 1 of the following features:

1984 Free Games feature – opt for this round and you’ll receive 10 free spins. Look out for the T-100 symbols which can melt and, in the process, turn into multiplier wilds which can boost payouts by up to 5x. These multiplier wilds stay in position until they form part of a winning line. On the final free spin, all of the T-100 wilds return to the reels. This is a medium volatility round.

2017 Free Games feature – this is the high variance pick. Again, you can look forward to 10 free spins. Above each reel you’ll see a projector. If these are destroyed, they will drop a stacked wild onto the reel below. These remain in place until they form part of a winning line.

Terminator Genisys has all the ingredients we’ve come to expect in a Playtech movie adaptation. The design is top notch. You won’t have any trouble recognising any of the characters here. There’s a menacing soundtrack playing too which is an ideal fit. It all works very well.

The same is true of the bonus features – we landed the Terminator Car Chase Bonus feature far more regularly than the free spin rounds. Don’t expect to break the bank here. It can deliver some steady results though, especially if you land a decent multiplier. The best opportunities arise from the free spins features though where the extra wilds can have a big impact.

We weren’t bowled over by the big screen version of Terminator Genisys. This video slot version was much more to our liking though. If you’re a Terminator fan or just enjoy well-made video slots with decent features, then this is certainly worth a closer look. If you like movie tie-ins, Playtech’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is recommended.
