Playtech Satsumo’s Revenge Video Slot Review

Satsumo’s Revenge: Demo

Head to a Japanese dojo and join a team of fruity martial artists in Satsumo’s Revenge. It’s a light-hearted 5 reel, 25 payline video slot from Playtech that comes with free spins with sticky wilds and special ninja wilds that can fill whole reels as well as multiply payouts. Available on desktop, tablet and mobile, stakes range from between 25p and £500 per spin.

A beautifully neat martial arts dojo is the setting for Satsumo’s Revenge – watching over proceedings is the bearded grandmaster, more on whom, shortly. The reels include lower value playing cards plus 5 different fruity symbols, each 1 of which has been given a martial arts twist.

You’ll see blueberries and grapes which pay 10, 50 or 150 coins if you land 3, 4 or 5 in combination followed by the limes and strawberries which award 20, 100 or 300 coins. Most rewarding is the bright orange Satsumo – this pays 40, 200 or 1,000 coins if you land 3, 4 or 5 across a payline. Look out too for the golden coin which is the standard wild.

That’s not the only wild you’ll see though – watch out for the shuriken (ninja star) on reel 5 as this activates the Shuriken Wilds feature when it hits. The grandmaster will use his powers to turn 1, 2 or 3 reels fully wild. These stacked reels can also come with multipliers:

  • if you see 2 Shuriken wilds, you can get 2 wild reels or 1 wild reel with a 2x multiplier
  • if you see 3 Shuriken wilds, you can get 3 wild reels, 2 wild reels (1 with a 2x multiplier) or 1 wild reel with a 3x multiplier

Satsumo’s Revenge is all about the Fighting Free Games feature – to trigger this, you’ll need to land the fighting fruit symbols on reels 1 and 5 on the same spin. Before the feature begins, choose 1 of the fruity fighters. They will then take part in a series of rock paper scissor contests.

If your chosen fruit wins a round, you’ll get a free spin with a sticky wild. Draw and you’ll get a free spin but no sticky wild and you won’t lose a life. Lose a round and you lose a life. Your fruit will have 5 lives to win as many free spins and sticky wilds as possible or until your opponent loses his 5 lives. After each bout, the free spin plays out.

The strange theme on offer in Satsumo’s Revenge actually works quite well. The visuals are simple but nicely done and the traditional oriental backing track is a nice addition. The range of extras isn’t huge but the stacked wilds and the free spins round offer some decent potential. You really need to land some sticky wilds to really benefit from there – even with a small number of free spins you can still do pretty well.

Yes, it’s a very silly game. Satsumo’s Revenge isn’t bad though. It probably won’t stand up to lengthy periods of play but for a quick blast it can offer some solid entertainment. If you prefer something more hard-hitting, Justice League by Playtech is recommended.
