Playtech RoboCop Slot Review and Free Play

RoboCop: Demo

Join a cyborg policeman trying to restore order to lawless Detroit in Robocop, a 5 reel, 25 payline video slot from Playtech. Based on the classic 1987 movie, it comes with high-end visuals, free spins with giant wilds, randomly added wilds and multipliers as well as a pick’em round. Play from 25p per spin on all devices.

A cityscape forms the backdrop to the reels here. The lower value A to J values are joined by a cop car, a weapon and a series of characters from the film. The most rewarding of these is Robocop himself who’ll get you 3, 10 or 40 times your stake if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.

Appearing on all reels, there’s also a wild – it substitutes for everything apart from the scatter and offers payouts of 10, 20 or 100 times your stake (for 3, 4 or 5). Appearing on reels 1, 3 and 5 only, the gold police badge is the scatter – land 3 of these on the same spin and you’ll trigger the feature menu and be awarded 1 of 4 bonus features:

  • Robot Attack Free Games feature – 5 free spins are awarded here. Appearing on the middle reels are giant 3×3 wilds which replaces everything bar the scatter. These land on each free spin.
  • Shootout Free Games feature – a random number of wilds are added to the reels on each of the 10 free spins awarded in this round.
  • Line Up Free Games feature – here you can look forward to 15 free spins. All payouts are boosted by a 2x multiplier and doubled.
  • OCP Mega Bonus feature – here you’ll be shown a bank of TV screens. Behind each 1 is a character. Land 3 of the same character and you’ll win their associated prize. A wild counts for any symbol – a 2x multiplier boosts the payouts. All payouts here will benefit from a 5x multiplier boost here.

You can randomly land each of these features during the base game too. In the case of the free spins, you’ll get a single spin rather than 5, 10 or 15 free spins. In the Bonus pick, you will get to choose but you won’t receive the 5x multiplier.

This version of the cyborg cop tale is very well designed – the visuals have a futuristic feel and are superbly done. There’s plenty of variety on offer as far as features go too thanks to the 8 bonus features.

Robocop was something of a sleeper hit on its release in 1987 – it’s gone on to gain a cult audience. With its combination of high-spec design and innovative extras, this movie-inspired re-boot is well worth a view. I also recommend you try NextGen Gaming’s Judge Dredd which has a similar theme – alternatively, Blueprint Gaming’s Ted is superb and based on the foul-mouthed bear.
