Playtech Age of the Gods: King of the Underworld Video Slot Review

Age of the Gods: King of the Underworld: Demo

The ancient Greek afterlife is the setting for Age of the Gods: King of the Underworld, another title in the popular myth and legend themed series from Playtech. This instalment is played using a 5 reel, 20 payline game engine and comes with a pair of pick me style bonus rounds. Stakes on all devices range from between 20p and £40 per spin.

Set against a backdrop of marble pillars and skulls, the reels include flaming A, K and Q symbols alongside a range of symbols relating to the ancient Greek theme. The best standard symbol pays 50 times your bet if you land 5 on a line.

That figure is dwarfed by what’s on offer from Tartarus which is the wild. As well as replacing all other symbols bar the scatter and bonuses, it also delivers 0.5, 5, 50 or 500 times your bet if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 on a payline. The scatter can be lucrative too, awarding 5, 25 or 100 times your total bet if you find 3, 4 or 5 of them anywhere on the reels on the same spin. The game also comes with a pair of bonus features.

Gates of Hell Bonus feature – this feature is triggered by landing 3 or more of Cerberus, the 3-headed dog symbol on the same spin. Your aim here is to work your way through the underworld by picking doors and winning cash prizes as you do. Keep on choosing until you unleash Cerberus or you’ve made 6 successful picks.

Thread of Fate Bonus feature – the 3 Fate Sister symbol triggers the second feature. This time pick from the spindles to weave your way through the sisters. Atropos will try and cut the cord. If she is successful, you’ll win a prize. The feature continues until the selected thread isn’t snipped.

Playtech’s Age of the Gods series has proved very popular and Age of the Gods: King of the Underworld is another solid addition. The visuals are good and the sweeping orchestral score is a good fit. The features aren’t bad but the lack of any free spins is disappointing. The wild though can give you 10,000 times your bet if you fill all 5 reels with them.

Age of the Gods: King of the Underworld isn’t a bad video slot. If you want to play a game in this myth and legend-themed franchise, then we’d point you in the direction of Age of the Gods: Furious 4 first. I also recommend you try Age of the Gods: Medusa & Monsters. Both offer more in the way of bonus features.
