John Wayne Video Slot review
John Wayne is a 5 reel 25 payline video slot created by Playtech. The slot has a classic Western soundtrack and cowboy themed symbols which takes you through the Wild West alongside the Duke and his beloved Dollar. Packed with rootin’ tootin’ riches apparently, you can play from 25p to £125 a spin.
If you get 3 or more Duke’s badges anywhere in the base game, you will trigger The Duke’s Badge feature. This is a classic ‘pick me’ style bonus where you pick 1 badge to reveal a random cash prize. If you get 3 badge symbols, you will win between 4 and 8 times your stake, between 20 to 30 times your stake for 4 badge symbols and between 80 to 120 times your stake for 5 badge symbols.
Then there’s the John Wayne’s Ranch Bonus feature which is a free spins game – you can activate this by getting the bonus symbol anywhere on reels 1, 3 and 5. You will be awarded with 3 free spins with a 1x multiplier to start with but you then need to shoot 6 tin cans that can award you with more free spins, a +1 multiplier, 3 more tin cans to shoot (up to 6), free spins re-trigger, a mystery extra wild and a mystery extra scatter.
You need to shoot anywhere on the screen but only hitting a can counts. You will see a ‘can meter’ in the left corner of the screen that shows the number of cans that you can hit. Once the free spins feature begins, look out for the ‘More Free Games’ re-trigger symbol as it can appear on the 3rd reel and award with 4 more free spins.. In total, you can get up to 40 free spins with a 5x multiplier.
The John Wayne slot game is definitely an entertaining one and I managed to win nearly 45 times my stake in the Ranch Bonus feature from my 4th spin. Don’t expect to trigger the free spins feature very often though but when you do, you’ll get a decent return from it. It’s a low variance game, like The Sopranos, which is not really my thing – I prefer medium to high volatile slots like WMS’s Zeus or Microgaming’s Immortal Romance.
