Play ‘N Go’s Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness Video Slot Review

Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness: Demo

Go on a high risk but potentially high reward hunt for lost treasure in Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness. This latest outing for adventurer Rich Wilde is based on H.P. Lovecraft’s infamous fictional literary universe, the Cthulhu Mythos. Created by Play ’N Go, it’s played using a 5 by 5 symbol drop grid. Collect symbols by landing multiple symbol drop wins to bring wild extras into the action. Play this super volatile video slot on your PC, tablet or mobile device from between 10p and £100 per spin.

Like the other game in this series, the design is rather good. The setting is a musty old crypt. There you’ll find gemstones alongside skulls, rings and daggers. The best of the standard symbols is the octopus necklace. Winning combinations are created by landing 4 or more matching symbols that are in a touching group. This can be either vertical or horizontal. Land 4 of the top paying octopus necklace symbol and you’ll receive a payout of double your total bet. If you manage to get 12 in combination, the payout rockets to 10 times your bet.

Helping to create the winners is the Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness which is the wild, replacing all of the standard symbols. Look out for special Eye Marks positions that can appear at random on the reels. Land a winner in 1 of these Eye Marks and 2 special wilds are added to the grid on your next winless drop.

Symbol drops are central to the action in Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness. After a successful combination lands, the winning symbols are removed and new ones appear from above and replace them. These continue as long as a new winning combination is on show.

Each time you land a winner, the symbols are collected in a portal to the left of the reels. After you’ve collected 7 symbols in a single set of symbol drops, you’ll see 2 special wilds added to the reels. 2 more are added after you’ve amassed 14 symbols.

If a winning combination hits that includes a special wild, you’ll trigger the Abyss Portal Effect feature which removes a row or column of symbols and creates a new drop. Those symbols are also collected in the Portal.

With 27 symbols collected, you’ll add 2 more special wilds. Wild wins here now activate the Void Portal Effect feature. 1 symbol is selected at random with all instances of this are removed from the reels. A drop follows and those symbols are added to your portal total.

If you manage to amass 42 or more symbols in the Portal, you’ll active the Other World Free Round feature. You’ll then get a free drop with 3 Portal effects. These are wilds that can also trigger the Void or Abyss extras. If you had more than 42 symbols in the Portal on the trigger, you’ll get even more wild extras. During the Other World Free Round feature, you’ll see 11 or 12 Eye Marks. Open all of them and you’ll receive a special colossal Mega Wild that drops down the screen 1 row at a time.

There’s plenty of going on in Rich Wilde’s latest treasure hunt and it can appear pretty complicated with all the wild extras. The more successive symbol drop wins, the better. There might not be a huge number of spins on offer in the free spins feature but the wild extras can make it well worth hitting.

As usual for a Play ’N Go game, this isn’t for the faint hearted as far as variance goes. It’s proper 10 out of 10 on a volatility front with top results of 2,000 times your bet on every drop. If you like symbol drop games or video slots that are just hugely volatile, then Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness should certainly grab your interest. I would also suggest you play Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead as this is Play ‘N Go’s flagship game.
