Play ‘N Go’s Ankh of Anubis Video Slot Review

Ankh of Anubis: Demo

Play ’N Go has again taken the tried and trusted road to ancient Egypt in the Ankh of Anubis slot. This game is something of a departure for Play ‘N Go though. For starters, it’s played using a 5 reel, 576 ways to win game engine and comes with super slick design that has a futuristic feel. More familiar are the simple features and high variance play. Stakes here start at 10p, rising to a maximum of £100 per spin.

Super slick visuals

Play ’N Go has made its name by creating simple, volatile fruit machines. Ankh of Anubis is about as far from that simple formula as you could get. The game uses a 3x4x4x4x3 reel set which offers 576 ways to win. The setting might be ancient Egypt, but the design is totally fresh and futuristic.

Set against a desert backdrop with pyramids, a giant moon and the Nile you’ll see royal values alongside hieroglyph jewels encrusted in gems. The top symbol is the ankh cross. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these on adjacent reels for an award of 1, 2 or 5 times your bet.

Anubis Wilds

Anubis, the jackal-headed god of the underworld, is the wild. This symbol can land anywhere apart from reel 1 and can hit in stacks that are 1, 2, 3 or 4 symbols high. In the base game you could benefit from the Anubis Wilds feature on any spin. A random collection of wilds is dropped onto the reels. The wild is worth up to 10 times your bet for 5 in combination.

Unlimited free spins

Landing 3, 4 or 5 of the golden pyramid scatter on the same spin will trigger the Free Spins feature and with it, 10, 15 or 20 free spins. Hope to see plenty of the ankh cross land during the feature. Each one that hits is collected in a meter.

Fill the meter with 5 and the Anubis Wild feature is triggered, and a random assortment of wilds are dropped onto the reels. A new payout consideration is then made. Re-triggers are possible here too. Land 3, 4 or 5 scatters awards another 10, 15 or 20 free spins. There’s no limit to the potential number of re-triggers either.

High variance – 15,000 x bet wins

The variance here in Ankh of Anubis isn’t as high as some slots from Play ’N Go but it’s volatile enough to keep you on your toes. On a scale of 1 to 10 we’re looking at an 8. However, it’s Play ‘N Go’s most potentially rewarding game to date with wins of 15,000 times your bet on offer from each spin or free spin.

You’ll find much more design flair in Ankh of Anubis than many other slots from this developer. The gameplay and features are reassuringly familiar. If you like volatile, Egyptian action, then you won’t go too far wrong with Ankh of Anubis.

Random multipliers

Chronos has some magical powers. On any spin, he can award a random multiplier of 2x, 4x, 5x or 10x. Even better are the Super Multipliers which send payouts soaring by 4x, 6x, 8x or 20x. This is known as the Multiplier feature.

Re-spins with multipliers

Central to the best action in Chronos Joker are the re-spins. These are triggered by landing 2 stacks of matching symbols on the same spin. These are held and a re-spin follows until a winning combination is created. The re-spins come with a variety of extras. Which one you get depends on the triggering multiplier:

  • Spins of the Future feature – if the 2x multiplier or 4x Super Multiplier is active, the multiplier increases with each re-spin until you land a winner.
  • Spins of the Past feature – with the 10x or 20x Super Multiplier active, the multiplier decreases with each re-spin until you land a winner.
  • Spins of the Present feature – at the 3x, 4x or 5x level (6x, 8x or 10x Super Multipliers), the multiplier remains the same until you find a winning combination.

Simple, medium volatility

Chronos Joker offers something a little different from Play ’N Go’s standard fare. The gameplay is simple, but the various multipliers and re-spins can deliver plenty of action. It’s not especially volatile either, especially in comparison to some of Play ‘N Go’s usual high variance releases.

Payout wise, you can win up to 1,600 times your bet on each re-spin. Chronos Joker isn’t our favourite release from Play ‘N Go but does provide a refreshing change from their usual high variance releases. If you want slots based on Greek mythology though, Playtech’s Age of the Gods: Mighty Midas is very good.
