Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix is a Barcrest-powered slot game which is an enhanced version of the original classic (Rainbow Riches). With 5 reels and 20 paylines, the Irish luck theme offering looks exactly the same as the original with pots of gold, leprechauns and rainbows as symbols. Playable from 20p to £500 spin, it’s available on desktop, mobile and tablet devices.
The Pick ‘n’ Mix version differs in that there are 5 bonus features instead of 3 – the 2 new bonus features are actually available in land based versions of the game. Before you spin the reels, you need to choose up to 3 of the 5 bonus features available – these are described below.
Barcrest has also incorporated the Big Bet mode which is found in all new Barcrest games like Monopoly Big Event. In the Big Bet mode, you will come across up to 3 wheels (depending on the number of features chosen). Each wheel has 2 slices – one is a Rainbow slice and the other a green slice.
You then need to select a wheel – if the arrow lands within the slice, that feature is automatically triggered. If not, you will be awarded 5 Mega Spins. The Mega Spins and Free Spins Bonus features are played at double your current stake. The Pots of Gold Bonus, Road to Riches Bonus, Cash Crop Bonus and Magic Toadstool Bonus features are played at 5 times your stake.
As for the features, and as mentioned above, you get to choose up to 3 before you start playing – you can reset it at any time too. The Road to Riches Bonus feature is played when you see 3 or more Road to Riches scatters. You spin the wheel to climb up the cash prize with up to 500 times your stake to be won.
The Pots of Gold Bonus feature is played when you see 3 or more Pots of Gold scatters – 4 will give you access to the Super Pots of Gold Bonus feature with higher wins on offer. Anyway, the bronze, silver and gold pots spin around with 1 chosen to give you up to 500 times your stake.
The Free Spins Bonus feature is activated by getting 3 or more Free Spins scatters (on reels 1, 3 and 5) – 3 will give you 10 free spins, 4 will give you 20 free spins and 5 will give you 30 free spins. Apart from being able to trigger the feature again (giving you a potential 30 extra free spins and 60 free spins in total), there are 2 wilds symbols which will boost your wins – the free spins scatter (which becomes a wild) is stacked on the 1st reel.
The Cash Crop Bonus feature is triggered when you get 3 or more Cash Crop scatters – you will see 50 coins on the screen which can land on a blank or multiplier. Once all coins stop spinning, the remaining multipliers fade out adding their prize to your meter – you can collect or carry on. If you land on ‘GO ON’, you will move to the next level – if you reach level 3, 5x and 10x multipliers are available.
Finally, you have the Magic Toadstool Bonus feature which is triggered when 3 or more Toadstool scatters are found – you get to make 3 picks from 24 toadstools. They will unveil either multipliers or a fairy – a fairy will give you 3 extra mushrooms for more cash prizes and fairies. A 3x multiplier is applied when you have 2 picks remaining and a 2x multiplier is applied on your last pick. A maximum of 500 times your stake can be won here.
Rainbow Riches Pick ‘n’ Mix definitely has more bonus features than the original and uses exactly the same graphics/animations – I found it better due to having 2 more features with the other 3 being identical. I’m sure it will prove a popular game but I wished Barcrest could have updated it (graphically).
