Eye of the Kraken is powered by Play ‘N Go and is a little unusual is that it has a 3 by 3 grid of symbols. With 8 fixed paylines, you can play from as little as 20p a spin to as much as £100 a spin. Available on desktop, mobile and tablet devices, its set underwater where you take on the Kraken – a mythical, tentacled creature that hides off the coasts of Norway and Greenland.
Graphically brilliant, the aim of the game is to line up 3 matching symbols or form a pattern of 4 matching symbols for a winning combination. Look out for Wild Kraken tentacles as these may appear and replace one of the more symbols – the screen shakes with the tentacles slithering on to the reels to change symbols into wilds.
There are also torpedo symbols which appear – every time you collect one, the torpedo meter to the right-hand side of the reels will drop from its starting number of 50. When you collect 50 torpedoes, you will activate the Bonus feature. Here you try to conquer the Kraken by choosing 3 of its tentacles to win cash prizes. It’s a classic pick me style bonus game where you can win up to 500 times your stake.
Then you have the Dive Mode which is played when you get 5 diving helmets. This is the Free Spins feature essentially where you will receive 9 free spins. The treasure chest symbol is important as they give you cash prizes – for example, 9 of them will give you 150 times your stake. Eye of the Kraken is unusual layout wise but is superb graphically. The bonus features are quite good too – I’ve played the Bonus feature a few times now and won just over 100 times my stake on a few occasions. I consider it to be a medium variance game with the maximum win a cool 500 times your stake per spin.
Theme wise, it’s, again, unusual but does remind me a little of WMS’ Nemo’s Voyage which is also set underwater. I do like Eye of the Kraken as Play ‘N Go has come up with a unique concept rather than the standard 5 reels, 20-50 paylines. It looks great, gameplay is good and can give you some big wins. If you’re a fan of Play ‘N Go’s work, Wild North is highly recommended.
