NextGen Gaming Snowflakes Video Slot Review

Snowflakes: Demo

Scooping up blizzards of coins is the name of the game in Snowflakes, a winter-themed video slot from NextGen Gaming. Featuring stunning design, this 5 reel, 25 payline game comes with a pair of base game extras that award up to 5 extra bonus wilds as well as a feature where you can win up to 30 free spins with frozen wilds. Head to this winter wilderness from between 30p and £600 per spin.

The NextGen Gaming designers have created a fine-looking video slot in snowflakes. A star-filled night sky forms the backdrop to the reels – those reels include 10 different blue, green and purple snowflake symbols. The 1 you’ll be hoping to see the most is the 8-pointed flake which will get you 5, 25, 75 or 400 coins if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 in combination.

Maintaining the chilly theme is the wild which is carved into a block of ice – it offers payouts of up to 500 coins per payline as well as substituting for all other symbols bar the scatter. Snowflakes is more than just a pretty face though. It comes with a trio of extras:

  • Icy Wild feature – this can hit on any spin and adds up to 5 wilds, 1 on each reel, into the mix. A new payout is made with the wild in position.
  • Wild Wind feature – an icy blast blows onto the reels and in the process, turns up to 5 symbols wild. Once again, 1 new wild can hit on each reel.
  • Free Spins feature – land 3, 4 or 5 scatters (the shimmering ball of ice) anywhere on the reels and you’ll get a payout of 5, 20 or 100 times your total bet. You’ll also be awarded 7, 10 or 15 free spins. Every time a wild lands during the free spins, it will be frozen and remain in position for any free spins you have left. You can re-trigger more free spins here if you manage to land 3 or more scatters on the same spin giving you up to 30 free spins.

We triggered the features, including the free spins, at regular intervals – we never quite managed to land a massive avalanche of coins but the steady flurries kept things ticking over nicely. Overall, we’d put the variance in the medium range.

With its lovely visuals, ambient soundtrack and nice collection of features, there’s much to like about Snowflakes. It’s not the highest-octane video slot you’ll see but delivers steady blizzards of entertainment making it well worth donning your virtual winter woollies and taking a closer look. I also recommend trying IGT’s Icy Wilds which has a similar feel to it.
