NextGen Gaming Green Lantern Video Slot Review

Green Lantern: Demo

Rather than focusing on the rather ordinary film starring Ryan Reynolds, NextGen Gaming has gone back to the comic book source material to create this video slot adaptation of Green Lantern. Available on desktop, tablet and mobile devices, this 5 reel, 50 payline superhero themed game comes with wild wins that are doubled or quadrupled as well as a pick ’em round and a free spins feature. Play from between 50p and £120 per spin.

The imagery in Green Lantern has a retro feel and harks battle to the original 1940s comic book. Joining the lower value playing cards are an assortment of weaponry, allies and enemies of the Green Lantern. Evil baddie Sinestro is the most lucrative symbol – 5 of these on a payline awards a bumper haul of some 10,000 coins.

The Green Lantern himself is the game’s wild – he appears stacked on reels 2 and 4 only and doubles any payout in which he appears in the base game. Things improve still further in the Lantern Free Games feature as all wild wins are quadrupled.

To trigger the Lantern Free Games feature, you’ll need to land the Green Lantern on reels 2 and 4 with the lantern symbol sandwiched in between on reel 3 – you’ll then be awarded 24 free spins. Every lantern that lands during the feature adds an extra Green Lantern wild to the stacked symbols that can appear on reels 2 and 4.

Green Lantern also comes with a Ring feature – to be in with a chance of triggering it, you need to be playing with Big Bet mode active. This will set you back an extra 10 coins per spin (e.g. the minimum bet increases from 50p to 60p per spin) but offers some tidy winning opportunities.

If you land the 3, 4 or 5 of the ring bonus symbol you’ll receive a payout of 200, 750 or 5,000 coins. You’ll also activate the feature. An animated Green Lantern will then fly onto the screen and do battle with arch nemesis Sinestro. Depending on who is victorious, you’ll win prizes of anywhere between 2 and 100 times your stake.

Well-designed and offering some decent features, this high variance game won’t just appeal to fans of the superhero genre. The slot that bears his name is a good one though and well worth a look if you’re after a change from Superman, Batman, Spiderman and the regular roster of world savers. I also recommend you try Justice League which is also powered by NextGen Gaming and incorporates many DC Comics icons.
