The action in the Hotline 2 slot takes place on a 5 reel, 243 ways to win machine. Winners are created by landing matching symbols or wilds on adjacent reels, starting from reel 1. So far, so standard.

There are options for win and loss limits as well as ending autoplay when you trigger the feature. Turbo mode is available too. Do this via the settings tab.

The maximum win is 5,184 x your total bet per spin. This will come in the Free Spins feature due to the increased number of ways to win.

Hotline 2 Theme – Detectives Quinn + Riviera are back for more Miami Vice-style adventure

Hotline 2 slot base game

Just like the original, there’s a strong feel of Miami Vice when it comes to the sound and visuals in Hotline 2. Pastel shades dominate the colour scheme which is just what you’d expect given the Miami setting. There’s a saxophone-heavy soundtrack blasting away while you spin which could have come straight out of a 1980s drama. It all works very nicely.

With a dusky Miami seafront and blocks of art deco apartments in the background, the reels are filled with lower value jewels and gemstones. They’re joined by a team of Miami cops including detectives Crockett and Tubbs, sorry Quinn and Riviera. The most rewarding symbol is the jewel thief Kitty Weiss.

On the stone symbol blocks you’ll find heart, diamond, club and spade symbols alongside a pipe, green top hat and a harp. The horseshoe is the best standard symbol, paying 2.5, 5 or 20 x your bet if you land 3, 4 or 5 on a payline. The freeway with the red sports car symbol is the wild and substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter.

NetEnt has created a Hotline 2 mobile slot and very impressive it is too. You’ll find the same classy, slightly retro-style sound and visuals and the simple gameplay that’s on offer in the desktop version. No complaints about the small screen play here.

Hotline 2 Bonus Features

Just like in the original, the Hotline feature is central to the action in this sequel. Land a wild in the Hotline zone and it expands to fill the whole reel. There’s also a free spins round complete with Hotline wilds and expanding reels which can in turn lead to even more free spins.

Hotline feature

You’ll notice that reels 2, 3 and 4 are edged in gold. These are the Hotline reels. You can play with 1, 2 or 3 Hotlines active. This will affect your total bet and how many wild reels you can get:

  • 1 Hotline active = 10p to £50 per spin
  • 2 Hotlines active = 20p to £100 per spin
  • 3 Hotlines active = 30p to £150 per spin

Expanding Wild feature

If you land a wild symbol (the freeway with the red sports car), the wild expands to fill the whole of the reel. This only occurs if that expansion leads to a new winning combination being created. As usual, the wild substitutes for all the standard symbols. If playing with 1, 2 or 3 Hotlines active, you can get 1, 2 or 3 fully wild reels respectively.

Free Spins feature

Hotline 2 slot Free Spins feature

Land 3 of the neon scatter symbol on the same spin to trigger the game’s Free Spins feature. On offer here are 7 free spins. The Hotline zone is active during the free spins. A wild will fill the whole reel whenever it lands in the Hotzone during the free spins.

Each wild that lands also increases the size of that reel by 1 row. Each reel can reach up to 6 rows high. This has an impact on the number of ways to win too. If all 5 reels reach their maximum size, the number of ways to win rises to 1,944.

Whenever a reel reaches its maximum height of 6 symbols high, you’ll also get 2 more free spins added to your total. In theory, you can land up to 5 extra free spins which would give you 13 altogether.

Buy feature

NetEnt also gives you the option to buy your way into the Free Spins feature. Known as the Buy feature, you can play 7 free spins with up to 3 Hotlines:

  • 1 Hotline active = 20 x stake
  • 2 Hotlines active = 40 x stake
  • 3 Hotlines active = 60 x stake

Due to regulations from the Gambling Commission, the Buy feature isn’t available in the United Kingdom.

Hotline 2 Thoughts/Opinion – very playable sequel takes this slot to another level

NetEnt has largely kept to the formula that made the original Hotline slot a hit. The design could come straight out Miami Vice. The gameplay is very similar to the original too. The Hotline and the free spins are present and correct.

The expanding reels, complete with added ways to win is a neat addition to those free spins though and certainly adds an extra layer to the gameplay. The max win per spin is also a lot higher (5,184 x bet vs 400 x bet).

We enjoyed the first outing for detectives Quinn and Riviera. Expect more of the same in the very playable Hotline 2.
