Microgaming Romanov Riches Slot Review and Free Play

Where to Play

The former Russian royal dynasty is the inspiration for Romanov Riches, a gemstone-themed video slot from Microgaming. This 5 reel, 15 payline game comes with sharp design and some interesting extras including transforming Mystery Stacks with re-spins and a spin the wheel bonus. Play on your desktop, tablet or mobile from between 20p and £100 per spin.

As you’d expect given the gemstone theme, there’s an opulent feel to the design here. The deep purple reels are made up of lower value royal values and higher value jewels. The diamond brooch is the wild. The game comes with a range of extras.

Features

  • Mystery Stacks feature – 1 Mystery Stack features on each reel on every spin. The 2 leftmost stacks will transform into the same matching symbol.
  • Re-Spin feature – land 2 or more fully formed Mystery Stacks from the leftmost reel and the re-spin feature comes into play. A re-spin is awarded with the Mystery Stacks locking in position. If another Mystery Stack lands, it will transform into the same matching symbol as the other and the process is repeated. It’s possible to fill all 5 reels with the same matching symbol here which can lead to some potentially spectacular results – up to 750 times your bet.
  • Wheel Bonus feature – the main feature round is triggered by landing 3, 4 or 5 full stacks of the Bonus symbol. It’s a spin the wheel bonus. The number of wheels you’ll get to spin depends on the number of Bonus stacks on the triggering spin. Wheels 1 and 2 both award coin values. The third wheel is made up of multipliers. If you’re lucky enough to spin this wheel, you’ll see your payouts from the first 2 wheels soar by up to 10x – this can lead to wins of 1,000 times your bet.

There’s nothing especially complicated about Romanov Riches. The design is as glitzy as you’d expect given the theme. The range of extras delivers a good range of play. The volatility sits in the middle.

If you like simple, jewel-themed video slots, then Romanov Riches should appeal. It’s not really a favourite genre for us but the potential from the Wheel Bonus feature makes it worth a quick spin. I prefer other Microgaming titles with Wicked Tales: Dark Red (from Microgaming) highly recommended.
