Star Trek Video Slot Review
Star Trek is an IGT powered slot game with 5 reels and 30 paylines. This slot is based on the 2009 Star Trek movie which features Simon Pegg. There are other Star Trek slots out there but they are powered by WMS Gaming (such as Star Trek Red Alert). It looks like IGT have the rights to the Star Trek films whilst WMS have the rights to the television series. Anyway, IGT’s Star Trek can be played from 30p to £90 a spin.
The wild symbol is the Star Trek symbol and substitutes all other symbols except for the scatter symbol to help complete a winning combination. Note that the Star Trek symbols will only appear on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 and will not contribute to the activation of the Free Spins bonus round.
The Free Spins feature is the main appeal as there are 4 – you can trigger this by getting 2 USS Enterprise Warp Drive Bonus symbols on the 2nd and 3rd reels as well the appropriate Officer Bonus symbol on the 4th reel. These are represented by Kirk, Spock, Uhura and Scotty. Each of these is different – here are the details:
Kirk Win Spins Bonus feature – you will start with 3 to 6 free spins with a 3x multiplier. These free spins are win spins meaning that you will get between 3 and 6 guaranteed winning spins. There is also a special Kirk symbol which replaced normal Kirk symbols to give you higher wins.
Spock Goes Wild Bonus feature – you get 10 to 15 free spins with extra Spock wild symbols from the 2nd to 5th reels. The Kirk symbol also pays 2x during this feature showing Spock who is boss.
Uhura Super Scatter Bonus feature – you will receive between 6 and 12 free spins. Furthermore, there are extra super scatter pays if you get 3 or more Uhura or Wild symbols on the reels. There are up to 8 Uhura and Wild symbols on offer at any one time.
Scotty Multiplier Boost Bonus feature – you get 10 free spins here. The multiplier ranges between 2x and 5x for the first 5 free spins and then goes up between 4x to 10x for the final 5 free spins. This is my favourite free spins feature due to the winning potential.
Furthermore, you can retrigger the bonus you receive by getting 3 Bonus symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4. You will then retrigger the same number of free spins that you received initially. In total, you can earn up to 250 free spins in any one of the bonus features.
I really like this Star Trek slot and despite WMS Gaming releasing a few of their own Star Trek slots, this game certainly holds it on. It’s a medium variance game with the Scotty Multiplier Bonus Boos feature being my favourite due to getting up to a 10x multiplier on the final 5 free spins.
