Big Time Gaming’s Monopoly MegaWays Video Slot Review

Monopoly MegaWays: Demo

Monopoly MegaWays is a 6 reel video slot from Big Time Gaming that’s based on the ever-popular board game. The MegaWays game engine means the reels can expand to offer up to 117,649 ways to win. There’s also a free spins round with multipliers. Play from between 10p and £20 per spin.

117,649 MegaWays & Reactions wins

The MegaWays mechanic delivers plenty of action here. The number of symbols on each reel changes with each spin and can include anything from 2 right up to 7. This has an impact on the number of active MegaWays too. These range from a minimum of 64 but can reach a massive 117,649. After a successful combination hits, the winning symbols are removed and new ones replace them. These ‘reactions’ keep on coming as long as a new winning combination is created. This is known as the Reactions feature.

True to its board game roots

This addition to the Monopoly franchise contains many elements from the original board game. Land a winner and Mr Monopoly will work his way around the Monopoly board. Known as the Reel Adventure mechanic, some tasty extras are on offer depending on what square he lands on:

  • Go – if Mr Monopoly falls on this square, the next spin takes place on a full set of reels with 117,649 MegaWays active.
  • Train Station – the first time you land on a station, you own it. It also boosts you free spins by 1 when you trigger the Free Spins feature.
  • Utility – this boosts your starting multiplier in the Free Spins feature.
  • Community Chest – land here and Mr Monopoly is sent to a random property where he can add between 1 and 4 houses.
  • Chance – s spin on a fully expanded set of reels could be awarded here. Alternatively, you could get sent to a random property or trigger the Free Spins feature.
  • Property – land on a property with a second ‘reaction’ win and it adds a house.

Free Spins feature

You can activate the Free Spins feature in 2 ways – from a Chance card or by building 5 houses on a property. Either way, you can look forward to an initial allocation of 8 free spins. If you have any Train Stations under ownership, then 1 extra free spin is added for each of them.

The multiplier in the Free Spins feature starts at 1x unless you have a Utility under your control. Each 1 increases the multiplier by 1x. There are ample opportunities to increase the multiplier during the free spins too. Each time Mr Monopoly visits a property with a house, it increases by 1x – with no limits.

You can add to your tally of free spins by landing on Train Stations during the feature. The Community Chest takes you to a random property while a Chance card can deliver 5 more free spins, take you to a random property or award a spin on a 117,649 MegaWays machine.

Once you’ve played out your free spins, the Utility Companies and Train Stations go back to their original state so you’ll have to collect them again. If you have houses on properties that haven’t been visited, then they remain intact.

High Variance action

With its trips round the board and Chance and Community Chest cards, Monopoly MegaWays seems the closest video slot to the original board game. We’ve not always enjoyed this franchise but Big Time Gaming has done a good job here, combining elements of the board game with the iconic mechanic.

There’s some big money potentially on offer too with possible payouts on each free spin of up to 14,700 times your bet! The high variance Monopoly MegaWays has quickly become our favourite in the Monopoly series. If you want games that use MegaWays, Reactions and Reel Adventure mechanics, Holy Diver MegaWays (from Big Time Gaming) is recommended.
