Ash Gaming is the latest developer to give the classic fruit machine an update in Gem Heat. It’s a 5 reel, 10 payline game that comes with stacked symbols and a free spins round with a sticky wild in the centre of reels plus symbol upgrades. Play in Hi Roller mode for more symbol upgrades. Stakes range from between 10p and £1,000 per spin.
The set up in Gem Heat is pretty simple – the plain black reels include single, double and treble bars, horse shoes, dollar signs and gold bars plus blue, green and red 7s. The red 7 is the best standard symbol, paying 25 times your stake if you land 5 on a payline. The trio of 7s can land in stacks that are 1, 2 or 3 symbols high.
Helping to create your winning combinations is the diamond which is the wild – it replaces everything bar the scatter and offers payouts of 5, 50 or 250 times your stake if you land 3, 4 or 5 in combination.
The main extra on offer here is the Free Games feature which is triggered by landing the Gem Heat logo scatter on reels 1, 3 and 5 on the same spin – your reward is 7 free spins. On each free spin, a flaming diamond wild appear in the middle of reel 3. The wild also upgrades winning combinations featuring the different coloured lucky 7s to further enhance your winning chances.
Gem Heat also offers the chance to play using the Hi Roller feature – this series of 5 linked spins sees flaming diamond wilds added and upgrades the lucky 7 wins. It costs 10 times your total stake to add the diamond to reel 3 and 20 times your stake to add the flaming wild to reel 2, 3 and 4.
It’s not as stripped back as some fruit machine reboots but Gem Heat is a simple game. It can deliver some pretty hot action though, especially in the Free Games feature where the sticky wild and upgraded symbol wins. Gem Heat won’t be one for fans of complex features, exotic bonus rounds and fancy visuals. For lovers of old school fruities, it should hit the spot.
