Playtech Wolf Mystery Video Slot Review

Wolf Mystery: Demo

Head to the Arctic tundra in Wolf Mystery, a lupine-themed adventure powered by Playtech. Played using a 5 reel, 50 payline game engine, this trip to the frozen north comes with mystery transforming symbols as well as a free spins feature. Play from 50p per spin.

Playtech video slots are usually well designed and Wolf Mystery is no exception – a wintry forest, illuminated by the aurora borealis in the night sky forms the backdrop to the reels. Joining the lower value playing card suits are a quartet of wolves in a variety of poses. The best of these is the observant looking brown wolf. Land 3, 4 or 5 of these in a payline and you’ll pocket 40, 200 or 500 coins.

More lucrative still is the wolf bearing his fangs which is the game’s wild – the wild can land on all reels and replaces everything apart from the scatter. It also offers payouts of 50, 400 or 1,000 coins if you land 3, 4 or 5 in combination.

There are 2 main extras on offer in Wolf Mystery. The first can hit on every spin in the base game and the feature. Look out for the paw print which is the special mystery symbol – these can transform into the same symbol on each spin to create some potentially impressive clusters of matching combinations. The paw print can morph into all the standard playing card suit and wolf symbols including the wild.

Wolf Mystery also comes with a Free Spins feature which is triggered by landing 3 or more of the full moon scatter anywhere on the reels on the same spin – 7, 10 or 12 free spins are awarded for landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters. The free spins are played out on a new machine which allows winning combinations to be formed from right to left as well as left to right. Land 3 or more scatters and another round of free spins will be awarded.

With 50 paylines and mystery transforming symbols that can land on any spin, you can expect plenty of action from Wolf Mystery. The pace is maintained in the free spins round too courtesy of the win both ways game engine. This isn’t Playtech’s most stunning game as far as design goes but the visuals have a glossy feel and are well done.

It’s not the most innovative game we’ve seen as far as features go either but Wolf Mystery is a typically sturdy effort from 1 of the online casino world’s biggest names and certainly worth a look. If you like the Northern Lights, NextGen Gaming’s Great Wild Elk is recommended.
