Take a trip down the Yellow Brick Road and hope to win big in Wizard of Oz Wicked Riches, a 5 reel, 30 payline video slot from WMS Gaming. This latest game to be based on Frank L Baum’s famous tale comes with a free spins bonus feature complete with multipliers that can top 10x as well as a Tornado bonus that awards cash prizes as well as a shot at winning 1 of 4 jackpots. Join Dorothy and company from between 30p and £2.40 per spin.

The visuals in Wizard of Oz Wicked Riches are a little different to the usual WMS offering – set against the backdrop of the Wicked Witch of the West’s castle, the white reels include buckets of water, hourglasses, owls, broomsticks, witch’s hat and castle.

More lucrative are the Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow and the Wicked Witch symbols. 5 of these on a payline award 25 times your total stake. The Wizard of Oz logo is the top paying standard symbol, awarding over 33 times your bet.

Wicked Riches comes with 2 wilds – the normal wild does just what you’d expect, replacing all other symbols with the exception of the jackpot and feature scatters. More interesting is the winged monkey wild. When this lands anywhere on the middle reel, a symbol will be chosen at random. The winged monkey will then fly across the reels and turn all of the randomly chosen symbol wild. A new payout is made with the new wilds in place. This is known as the Winged Monkey feature.

Landing 3 or more of the Bonus symbol triggers the Free Spins feature. There’s no cash bonus on offer for hitting 3 of them but 4 or 5 will get you a payout of 10 or 100 times your total bet respectively. You’ll be awarded 8 free spins once the feature is triggered. After any winning spin, the wicked witch will apply a multiplier to your win, boosting it by anything from between 2x and 10x. 3 more Bonus symbols will get you another 8 free spins taking your total to 16.

Rounding out the extras is the Tornado feature which can hit randomly on any spin – here you’ll be presented with a selection of 8 barns. Pick 1 to reveal a cash prize of between 1x and 7x. If you’re lucky, you’ll also trigger the jackpot feature and with it a shot at scooping the Kansas, Munchkinland, Haunted Forest or Emerald City jackpot. Prizes of up to £2,000 can be won here.

The variance here is on the low side of medium with the free spins and multipliers the best route to flying off with plenty of treasure. Visually, Wicked Riches is a little disappointing. The images are very small and a little tricky to make out. The features are better though, offering a nice variety.

This is a solid enough addition to the Wizard of Oz franchise. If forced to choose, we’d opt for Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers, also by WMS, which has a similar theme but offers much more in the way of potential thrills.
