Playtech Wild Chief Video Slot Review

Wild Chief: Demo

A wise old tribal elder can help deliver rich rewards in Wild Chief, the latest Native American-themed video slot from Playtech. Played using a 5 reel, 243 ways to win game engine, it features high-end visuals and a bonus round where you can win up to 40 free spins with wild multipliers of up to 10x. See what the smoke signals have in store from 50p per spin.

This theme seems to have been overtaken by historic China, pirates and horror in recent times. This trip to Native American territory is a good one though. Visually, it’s very well done – set against a hilltop encampment and flanked by a wigwam and campfire, the reels include lower value A to 9 playing cards and a selection of finely drawn Native American-style paraphernalia.

You’ll see moccasin slippers and feathered head dresses which award up to 200 coins as well as a totem pole which will get you 400 coins if you land 5 in combination. The most lucrative of the standard symbols is the wolf. You’ll pocket 100, 200 or 500 coins if you land 3, 4 or 5 of these on adjacent reels. Appearing on reels 2 and 4 only is the chief of the tribe – he is the wild and substitutes for everything bar the scatter.

Wild Chief comes with a Free Games feature but it has the potential to be a cracker – to play it, you’ll need to land 3 or more of the scatter (the wigwam set against the sun) anywhere on the reels on the same spin. You’ll then be awarded 10, 15 or 20 free spins.

The wild chief gains some magical properties during the feature – as in the base game, he can only land on the even-numbered reels. Whenever he does land, he’ll award a multiplier of 2x or 5x. Even better is when you manage to land a pair of wilds on reels 2 and 4 on the same free spin.

The multipliers are then multiplied meaning your payouts stand to gain from a 10x boost. More free spins are available if you land 3 or more scatters on the same free spin too giving you, potentially, 40 free spins.

Visually, Wild Chief is very well constructed – the imagery is simple but the bright, vibrant colours are an ideal match for the theme. The gameplay is pretty solid too. Don’t expect too many thrills from the base game as it’s the feature where the action really heats up. Land those multiplier wilds on the same free spin and the coins can quickly flow.

This theme has gone slightly out of fashion in recent times. We’re glad to see that Playtech has brought Native America back to life. With its classy looks and potentially explosive feature round, Wild Chief can offer some pretty exotic entertainment. Additionally, Thunderkick’s Turning Totems has a similar theme.
