Rome & Glory takes you back to the glory days of the Roman Empire – With 5 reels and 20 paylines, this game was previously only available to play on download casinos – Playtech has since release it (and others) so it’s available to play on desktop devices (i.e. laptop/PC).

Playable from 20p a spin, you are taken to a Colosseum with symbols that include goblets, ancient scripts, gold purses, grapes, brass horns, Roman banners and chariots. The highest value symbol is the Roman Emperor which rewards you with 5,000 times your line bet if you find 5 on an active payline – the Roman woman is pretty valuable too as the amount is 2,000 times your stake (for 5 on a payline).

The Colosseum scatter is the key to triggering the Free Games feature – 3 or more on any of the reels will give you 10 free spins. There is also a Mystery Scatter which is determined before the feature begins – hopefully you will a higher value symbol which will result in bigger wins.

Once you have your Mystery Scatter, this will act like a scatter – it will also expand to take over the whole reel when forming part of a winning combination. 3 or more Colosseum symbols will give you an additional 10 free spins – this can happen indefinitely – my best total reaching a whopping 70 free spins – this led to a 2,320 times stake win!

As you might suspect, Rome & Glory is a very high variance slot game – you need patience (or a big bankroll) in order to win big on this slot so tread carefully. I’ve had many dry sessions before but that 1 big payout can be more than worth it – I’ve won over 1,000 times my bet in the feature a few times now.

Graphically, Rome & Glory does look a little dated compared to newer releases (think WMS Gaming’s Roman Chariots) but the volatility and potential reward from the free spins feature is sometimes a little too hard to resist. This is definitely a classic and one you should try (with caution though!).
