NextGen Gaming Wild Dodo Video Slot Review

Wild Dodo: Demo

An extinct flightless bird is the star of Wild Dodo, a 5 reel, 20 payline video slot from NextGen Gaming and Side City Studios. It comes with re-spins complete with a guaranteed stacked wild as well as feature that awards up to 40 free spins with 2x and 3x multipliers. Stakes range from between 20p and £100 per spin.

Before its untimely demise, the dodo was native to Mauritius and the tropical island is the setting here. The reels are made up of totem poles and include lower value playing cards as well as flora and fauna from the island. You’ll see flowers, coconuts, chameleons, fish and parrots spinning around the reels. Most rewarding of the standard symbols is the turtle who’ll get you 37.5 times your stake if you land 5 on a payline.

The dodo is the wild – it replaces everything bar the scatter and offers payouts of 0.5, 10, 100 or 500 times your total bet if you land 2, 3, 4 or 5 of them on a line. Land the wild on reel 3 and you’ll trigger the Wild Dodo Re-Spins feature – here you can look forward to 3 re-spins with a stacked wild positioned on the middle reel throughout.

The second feature, the Dodo’s Nest Free Games feature, is triggered in the usual manner by landing 3 egg basket scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 on the same spin. You’ll then be taken to a new screen where you have to pick from a selection of golden eggs.

Find 3 values that match and that the number of free spins you’ll receive. If you end up with 5, 7, 10, 12 or 15 free spins you’ll also get a 2x multiplier boost. If you’re lucky enough to land 20 free spins, the multiplier increases to 3x. Landing 3 scatters triggers another round of free spins, complete with multiplier.

Wild Dodo is a jolly old video slot – the visuals are bright and bold but also very detailed. Combined with the steel drum soundtrack and it all comes together very nicely. There’s nothing especially novel on offer from the features but the re-spins with stacked wilds and the multipliers in the free spins can deliver some nice action.

The extinct bird may have breathed its last in real life but there’s still plenty of life in the virtual Wild Dodo which is certainly worth a closer look. If you like the feel of the game, I recommend you try ELK Studios’ Sam on the Beach or Yggdrasil Gaming’s Spiña Colada which will also take you to an exotic/tropical location.
