Novomatic Apollo God of the Sun Slot Review and Free Play

Apollo God of the Sun: Demo

Ancient myth and mystery is theme on offer in Apollo God of the Sun. Based on the Greek god, it’s a 10 reel, 100 payline game from Novomatic that comes with transferring stacked wilds and a free spins feature with expanding wilds. Play from 50p per spin.

Video slots from Novomatic are usually as basic as they come so it was a bit of a surprise to find a 2 machine set up when we fired up Apollo God of the Sun. The left-hand set is a standard 5 reel, 4 row machine. There’s also a 5 reel, 12 row machine to the right. These largely spin independently to create 100 paylines. The 2 sets work in concert in a couple of areas though. Land a fully stacked wild on machine 1 and it will copy itself and become a fully stacked wild on the equivalent reel on machine 2.

The Free Spins feature can also be triggered on either machine or combined – just land 3, 4 or 5 or more scatters over the 2 sets. Bonus scatters can land on reels 1, 3 and 5 on both left and right machine:

  • 3 scatters and you’ll get 8 free spins with a 1x stake payout
  • 4 scatters and you’ll get 12 free spins with a 2.5x stake payout
  • 5 or more scatters and you’ll 20 free spins with a 10x stake payout

Regardless of the number of free spins you win, any wild that lands on machine 1 will expand and fill the whole of that reel. It will then copy onto machine 2 and fill the corresponding reel there with wilds too.

The set up here is something of a departure for Novomatic and the same could be said of the design. The visuals have an epic feel and there’s a sweeping orchestral backing track playing as you spin. It’s a far cry from the usual bangs and bleeps we’ve come to expect. You’ll see playing cards, harps, arrows, snakes and warriors spinning around the reels. They’re joined by a flaming horse and Apollo, both of which can land stacked multiple symbols high.

As far as volatility goes, we found Apollo God of the Sun to be quite high. The stacked wilds are the key to winning, especially in the bonus round. If the Greek gods are in a playful mood, there’s some pretty hot action on offer here. I also suggest you try the Age of the Gods series from Playtech if you enjoy the theme.
