NextGen Gaming Platinum Pyramid Video Slot Review

Platinum Pyramid: Demo

Ancient Egypt gets a precious metal makeover in Platinum Pyramid, a 5 reel, 20 payline video slot powered by NextGen Gaming. Watch out for the mysterious priestess who offers payouts of up to 7,000 coins per payline as well as the platinum pyramid which triggers the free spins round where all payouts are trebled. Stakes range from between 20p and £200 per spin.

The design in Platinum Pyramid is nicely done – a star-filled, moonlit sky forms the backdrop to the reels which are made up of platinum-style playing cards and a range of Egyptian hieroglyphs. You’ll see the ankh cross and the dog god Anubis which pay up to 500 coins per payline followed by the eye of Ra which pays up to 1,000 coins and the yellow flower which awards 3,000 coins if you land 5 on a payline.

The most rewarding symbol by far is the priestess which is the game’s wild – it can land on all reels and substitute for all other symbols bar the scatter. Land 2, 3, 4 or 5 wilds on a line and you’ll win 10, 250, 2,000 or 7,000 coins (350 times your stake!).

The platinum pyramid of the title is the scatter – land 3, 4 or 5 of these and you’ll pocket an award equal to 5, 20 or 150 times your total stake. You’ll also trigger the game’s Free Games feature. Here you can look forward to 5, 10 or 15 free spins. All payouts landed during the free spins are subject to a 3x multiplier and trebled. You can re-trigger more free spins here too so hope to see those pyramids drop into place.

The setting here may be serene but we found the action to be rather more volatile. The biggest potential is offered in the free spins round where the 3x multiplier can quickly work its magic. Expect some lengthy spells between hits those – we’d put the variance on the high side of medium.

The appetite for all thing Egyptian is seemingly endless. Platinum Pyramid offers a novel take on the age-old theme, visually at any rate. The features aren’t especially fresh but the free spins round does offer plenty of potential and makes Platinum Pyramid well worth a look if you’re a fan of the ancient theme. If Egypt is appealing, there’s a wide range of options with the classic Rome & Egypt by WMS and Sphinx Wild by IGT recommended.
