Microgaming Jurassic World Slot Review and Free Play

Jurassic World: Demo

Based on the 4th instalment of the Jurassic Park film franchise, Jurassic World is a 5 reel, 243 ways to win video slot from Microgaming. It comes with the developer’s usual glossy design as well as instant win bonuses that can boost payouts by up to 1,000x and free spins with rolling reels, expanding multipliers and wild scatters. Play from between 30p and £7.20 per spin.

Microgaming’s movie tie-in usually have a strong visual aesthetic and that’s certainly the case with Jurassic World which has an HD feel. Joining the 6 dinosaur symbols are photo-style images of 4 of the movie’s central characters. The best of these is Owen aka Chris Pratt. The dinosaur bones symbol is the wild. This spins in stacks that can reach 10 symbols high, offering the potential for stacked wild reels.

Rounding out the symbols is the amber fossil which is the scatter – land 2 of these anywhere on the reels on the same spin and they will transform into wilds. Land 3 or more of them and you’ll trigger 1 of the 3 feature rounds. These are allocated at random but once you’ve triggered the bonus 15 times, you’ll be given a choice:

  • Gyrosphere Valley feature – 10 free spins are awarded, complete with an expanding multiplier that increases by 1 following every unsuccessful free spin, up to a maximum of 7x. After a winning free spin, complete with multiplier boost, the multiplier returns to 1x. You’ll always finish this round with a winning free spin.
  • Raptor Den feature – any scatters that land during your 10 free spins will also be wilds. Scatters are held until there are 3 of them on show or you play out all 10 free spins. Find 3 scatters and an extra 5 free spins are added to your total.
  • Creation Lab feature – once again, 10 free spins are awarded, this time on a new set of rolling reels. Winning combinations are removed and replaced by new symbols. These continue until there is a reel roll without a win. Any Cyro wilds that land during this feature are held in position for 3 free spins.

Spicing up the base game action is the Indominus feature – the giant Indominus Rex dinosaur can come marauding into view at random, when you get a win, and offer prizes of up to 1,000 times your total stake.

The beasts on show here may be big but the volatility isn’t quite so extreme as the variance is in the medium range. Saying that, you can win over 14,000 times your total stake in the Gyrosphere Valley feature.

Jurassic World impresses both in terms of design and gameplay. The visuals are high def, top-end affairs and there’s plenty of variety on offer in the gameplay thanks to the Indominus bonus and trio of free spins rounds. If you like plenty of variety in your play, this delivers.

The Jurassic Park film franchise shows little sign of slowing down. The same will likely be true of the video slot versions. If they continue to be as good as Jurassic World, we won’t be complaining. I also recommend you try Microgaming’s other dinosaur themed title, Jurassic Park, which is superb.
