The Dark Knight Rises Video Slot review

The Dark Knight Rises is the 2nd Batman-themed slot to be created by Microgaming and is based on the 2012 movie (The Dark Knight Rises). The game (and film) features the DC Comics character Batman (who is played by Christian Bale) who aims to stop Selina Kyle and Bane destroying Gotham City. Bruce Wayne is the character in the film and comes out of retirement to become Batman. The slot game has 5 reels and 243 ways to win and importantly isn’t a progressive jackpot slot (unlike the original The Dark Knight slot).

You can play from as little as 30p a spin or as much as £75 a spin. The great thing about the slot not being a progressive jackpot game is that the RTP (return to player) will be higher giving you a better chance of winning more. Anyway, The Dark Knight Rises has new features too including the Free Spins Accumulator, Symbol Scramble and Split Wilds.

The new features trigger at random in the base game. If you take Symbol Scramble feature, symbols will switch positions to give you a winning combination. The Expanding Wild feature is simple as the special wild symbol becomes and expanding wild on the middle reel.

However, the most important is the Fight Mode feature – above the reels, you will see a Bane and Batman free spins/multiplier counter. When this feature randomly triggers, Bane and Batman fight to increase the number of free spins and multiplier. This can happen a few times so you will see quite a lot of free spins (with an increased multiplier).

Now, this will benefit you when you get 3 or more Scatter Bonus symbols on the reels as you will trigger the Free Spins Bonus feature. You can then choose either the Bane or Batman free spins games to play which have different features within.

Choosing Bane will trigger the Rolling Reels feature. When you have a winning spin, the responsible symbols explode and disappear with new symbols dropping in. This can result in multiple wins on every single free spin. Then there is the Super Stacked Wilds feature where The Dark Knight Rises logo appears to create a wild stack on reels 2 and 4. However, this feature only applies once you’ve unlocked the Free Spins Bonus feature 10 or more times.

Choosing Batman will trigger the Extra Wild Blast feature. You will choose a symbol which acts like an additional wild (which then increases your winning potential). You also have the Heat Seeking Wilds feature which applies once you’ve played the Free Spins Bonus feature over 10 times. Random symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 will change into wilds and can split in 2 too. This means you can get a 6 of a kind combination which is double that of a 5 of a kind combination!

The Dark Knight Rises is definitely a massive improvement on The Dark Knight and I’ve had some big wins in the Free Spins Bonus feature too (which helps). I prefer the Batman features though and the randomly triggered base game features are a nice touch. It’s a popular slot game but can’t compare to the iconic Immortal Romance or the newer Jurassic Park (both by Microgaming).
